Data centers’ environmental impacts extend beyond carbon emissions

Writing in Energy Research & Social Science , Can Hankendi and colleagues examine the environmental impacts of data centers located in Norway, Germany, and Denmark. Results show that these data centers can emit up to 2 megatons of greenhouse gases over their lifetime and consume 56 billion liters of water, with minimal current potential for circularity.
