A New Saponin from the Leaves and Stems ofPanax quinquefoliumL. Collected in Canada

Abstract A new dammarane-type saponin named quinquenoside L3 (1) together with vina-ginsenoside R3 (2) were isolated from the leaves and stems of Panax quinquefolium L. collected in Canada. On the basis of physicochemical and spectral evidences, 1 was established as 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-20-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl] 20(S)-dammar-23-ene-3β, 12β,20,25-tetryol.
