[Objective]To determine the values of MCV and RDW examinations for clinical diagnosis in anemia of chronic disease anemia and different types of anemia of chronic systematic disease.[Method]By using Coulter STKS Blood Cell Analyzer, the values of MCV and RDW in 40 patients with anemia of chronic disease,130 patients with anemia of chronic systematic disease(40 cases of liver,40 cases of renal and 50 cases of glycosuric anemia) and 40 healthy individuals as normal control were measured. The differences of MCV and RDW values among the different patients and healthy individuals were compared. [Result]In comparison with the healthy individuals, the MCV values of the patients with anemia of chronic disease and the patients with anemia of chronic systematic disease were similar(P 0.05) but RDW values were significantly increased(P 0.05).The MCV and RDW values in liver anemia patients were obviously higher(P 0.01) than that in the normal control. Only RDW value elevation for renal anemia patients(P 0.05) and no elevated MCV and RDW values for glycosuric anemia patients(P 0.05) could be found compared to normal control.[Conclusion]RDW could be used as a laboratory index for accessory diagnosis of anemia of chronic disease and anemia of chronic systematic disease.MCV examination had a certain reference value for clinical differential diagnosis of liver anemia.
