The effect of carbon equivalent On extent of graphite floatation and forms of graphite in floatation areas was studied by observing metal graphics. The results show that the increase of carbon equivalent is primary reason for graphite floatation. When graphite floatation appears, there is critic carbon equivalent, which is not constant but varies with section size and pouring - temperature of castings. The depth of the graphite floatation band increases with the in- crements of carbon equivalent, at same time, the I extent to which graphite had gone bad increases in the floatation area. When the graphite floatation is heavy, the exploded graphite will apperar. The effect of carbon equivalent on graphite floatation is sensitive to the section size of castings. The larger section size is, the larger increments of the graphite flotationis are with the increment of the carbon equivalent.
