As one of the essential treatments for bilirubin removal in clinical, hemoperfusion of bio-sorbents required efficacy, efficiency and biosafety. Dopamine of biocompatibility and spontaneous polymerization was herein proposed for the bilirubin-imprinted adsorptive polymers of selectivity, doped with TiO2 of adsorptivity and Fe3O4 as fixed magnets. Via electrostatic reaction and hydrogen bonding, the magnetic sorbents composed of polydopamine doped with TiO2 removed bilirubin of 263.5 mg·g-1 non-homogeneously during 240 min. With a competitive adsorption coefficient (tN) of 10.4, the magnetic sorbents also exhibited the decent blood compatibility of acceptable hemolysis ratio and plasma recalcification time. Prospectively, the TiO2-doped bilirubin-imprinted PDA cored with Fe3O4 was potentially for bilirubin selective removal via hemoperfusion in clinic.
