Active electropositive α-chlorine: trichloroacetonitrile as an electrophilic chlorination reagent

An inverse-electron C–Cl bond cleavage of Cl 3 CCN under basic conditions to give the chlorine cation, which was used as an unprecedented active electrophilic chlorine source for α-mono- and α-dichlorination of carbonyl compounds.
