摘要
This chapter presents the traditional categories of overview, etiology/pathophysiology, signalment/history, clinical features, key differential diagnosis, diagnostics, and therapeutics of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) use in equine. FDA-approved versions for the horse include phenylbutazone, ketoprofen, flunixin meglumine, firocoxib, and diclofenac. NSAIDs have antipyretic, analgesic, and antiplatelet effects. Combining systemic NSAIDs increases likelihood of toxicosis. The goal of therapy is to limit toxin absorption and provide supportive care for chronic/overdose NSAID toxicity. The chapter is an indispensable reference for veterinary clinicians and students dealing with equine medicine, as well as for anyone seeking concise and comprehensive information about equine toxicology.
