A comparative study of the index of plasticity of the sedimentary mottled clay of Agartala, (Tripura State), with some other clay deposits of Europe and America, as determined by Atterberg's liquid and plastic limit methods
There is no standard method of determining the plasticity of clay, although several methods have been suggested by various authors, Atterber'gs method for the determination of plasticity index may be considered to be the most convenient practice to know the degree of plasticity of clay and soil samples. The limits as determined by Aterberg are the liquid limit, plastic limit and plasticity-index. These methods are described in this paper. The values of limits for Agartala clay have been tabulated. The values correspond favourably with the standard plastic clay of Europe and America. The relation between the particle size and plastic-index has also been discussed. Pure clay separated from impurities shows a higher value of the Atterberg plasticity-index.
