Affluence and Contact Lens Prescribing

The rate of prescribing daily disposable contact lenses, and to a lesser extent toric lenses, is related to national affluence. The contact lens industry, practitioners, and governments/regulatory bodies should remain cognizant of this association and, where possible, reduce cost barriers to the purchase of such contact lens products so that they can be prescribed based on important clinical, refraction, and lifestyle considerations.
