摘要
In this investigation, a new single lap joint with attachments was developed and was proved to be more efficient than the traditional single lap joint in terms of load transfer. The design concept of attachment helps to make the singular peel stresses at the ends of the joint region compressive and thereby shift the failure location. The new joint has achieved about 60 % improvement in tensile shear. The various parameters of the attachment affecting the ultimate load were experimentally and numerically investigated. As the angle of attachment increases, the ultimate load of the joint decreases. The length of the joint did not have a significant effect on the ultimate load. By increasing the thickness of the attachment, the failure loads of the joint are found to increase, and the joint never fails, by undergoing plastic deformation.
