Objective To investigate the hypoglycemic mechanism of flavonoids of mulberry leaves(FM) in diabetic mice. Methods Alloxan-induced diabetic mice was divided into 4 groups, with one natural control group, and administered orally distilled water,FM at dose of 1.00,0.50,0.25 g·kg-1 per day, respectively for 6 weeks.Take femoral artery blood to measure the glycosylated serum proteins(GSP) and the blood serum insulin content at the 6th weekend. The liver glycogen was measured and some liver tissue was taken to 10% liver homogenate to measure liver homogenate protein content, hexokinase(HK),pyruvate kinase(PK),SOD,glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) and MDA vitality in the end of experiments. Results The GSP of diabetic mice fed FM decreased obviously.Their blood serum insulin, liver glycogen content,HK,SOD vitality and body weight increased significantly. But,their MDA content decreased obviously. Conclusion It is suggested that FM has effects of enhancing their anti-oxidation in diabetic mice.Through promoting insulin secretion increased, while improving liver HK vitality,FM can achieve the glucose metabolism regulation, blood sugar reducing, and improve the symptoms in alloxan-induced diabetic mice.
