However, I would like to clarify the section on calcium intake recommendations (2, 3). The upper level of calcium intake is 2500 mg/d for adults up to 50 years of age but only 2000 mg/d in women and men older than 50 years because of evidence of increased risk for kidney stones. That some patients are overzealous and consume excess supplements without regard for potential adverse effects is a common problem in the field of micronutrient supplements.
