摘要
This paper proposes a curated booklist which foregrounds linguistic diversities and pluralities as powerful catalysts for inclusivity, belonging, and resistance. Drawing on an extensive document analysis of picturebooks published between 2014 and 2024, our study deploys an integrated framework from Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies and Critical Multicultural Education to examine texts that feature bi/multilingual characters and narratives of linguistic oppression, reclamation, and hybridities. The selected titles challenge dominant cultural norms by affirming heritage languages and offering alternative modes of expression, although some fall short of surfacing or critiquing underlying systemic inequalities. Nevertheless, these diverse picturebooks serve as pedagogical tools which teachers and students can use not only to validate marginalised identities but also disrupt prevailing linguistic hierarchies in education and society in general. Ultimately, this paper argues that a well-curated picturebook list can transform pedagogical approaches, enabling resistance against cultural essentialism while nurturing a sense of belonging and social justice among diverse learners. We underscore the urgent need for educational reform that embraces linguistic diversity as an asset and a foundation for equitable learning environments.
