Compact and Broadband Inverse Taper-based Light Couplers with Optimized Profiles

We experimentally demonstrate an optimized, inverse polynomial taper profile Si light coupler. Coupling losses of 0.5 dB and 0.8 dB were measured at 1550 nm for the TE and TM modes for a 15 $\mu$m long device with a broadband response.
