Francis Frith in the Holy Land: Some dates revised

Francis Frith's three journeys to the Middle East are well known and his photographs bear witness to all the places he visited. However, their exact dates are difficult to establish as his pictures were not published in either geographical or chronological order. This is especially the case for his two visits to the Holy Land. I have tried repeatedly to pinpoint Frith's stay in the Holy City and have not been able to reconcile my findings with the timetable established by Julia Van Haaften in an otherwise remarkably welldocumented essay.1 I have now found written proof of the exact dates of Frith's arrival in the Holy City in 1857 and 1858 and of who accompanied him.
