A series of acrylic resins were synthesized by using ditertiary butyl peroxide (DTBP) as a free radical initiator and 2-mercaptoethanol as a chain transfer agent. The effects of the amount of initiator and transfer agent and the initiator proportion of DTBP to benzoyl peroxide (BPO) on the viscosity of resins were investigated. Also, the influence of resin's Tg on the viscosity was discussed. It was found that the viscosity values of these resins are about 1 000 mPa·s and the solid contents of these resins are 65%~70%. The result of GPC indicated that these resins had low molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. The coating prepared by using the synthesized resins had excellent performance.
