Study on Measurement of Particle Size Distribution of Sub-micron CeO_2 Powder

Particle size distribution(PSD) of sub-micro CeO2 powder in high concentration suspension was measured by a new dynamic light scattering(DLS) and laser diffraction,influence of dispersing pre-treatment on DLS results was analyzed,and PSD results from DLS measurements were calculated on various distribution bases and validated by TEM results.It was found that PSD results from laser diffraction measurements were much big with median size of about 2 μm on volume base,while median sizes on volume and number base from DLS measurements were 257.0 nm and 157.1 nm respectively.Dispersing pre-treatment was found to influence PSD results from DLS to some extent,and PSD results on number base of the CeO2 powder from DLS measurements accorded well with results from TEM analysis.It was concluded that the new DLS could measure PSD of the sub-micro CeO2 powder in high concentration suspensions dispersed properly.
