“The Disorder of Chinese State and the Survival of Chinese People”——Hasegawa Nyozekan’s Travel Notes about China and His View on China

This paper takes Taisho era’s famous critical thinker Hasegawa Nyozekan (1885-1969)’s travel notes about Words of the man who has visited China written in 1921-23 as the main analysis text, to reinterpret and re-evaluate his views on china. Hasegawa appreciated China’s social autonomy ability while denying China’s national formation ability. His viewpoints provided us more pluralistic visual angles to observe modern Japanese intellects’ view on China.
