Ploidy Levels of Medicago falcata Germplasm Determined by Flow Cytometry

Flow cytometry was used to determine the ploidy levels of 47 Medicago falcata accessions.Forty-five accessions were found to be tetraploid,the mean nuclear DNA content was 1.85±0.09pg/2c,two accessions were diploid with an average of 1.016±0.021pg/2c of nuclear DNA content.The results provide theoretic basis for genetics and breeding,reasonable utilization of germplasm resources,and phylogeny and evolution of Medicago species.
