The Influence of Array Geometry on System Performance

This paper investigates the spatial filtering ability of an adaptive antenna array as a function of the array's geometry. Different types of non-planar geometries with an adjustable parameter are examined and their performance is compared with a standard array. The standard array used for reference is a space-time receiver used in practice, the GAS-1 (GPS antenna system) array developed by Raytheon. This is a 7-element array that is used to mitigate the effects of jamming on an array. The GAS-1 array is a hexagonally sampled array, with the spacing between adjacent elements given by d/2, which is equal to half wavelength spacing for the frequency of interest to the array
