摘要
Slurry erosion in various industries is a significant concern for the components of the slurry handling system. High chrome cast iron is used for highly erosive applications (i.e., mining, thermal power plant, etc.) as a slurry pump for casing and impeller. In this paper effect of significant parameters influencing slurry erosion particle velocity, impact angle, particle size, and concentration was studied and analyzed through the Taguchi approach. The erosion wear morphology was studied with scanning electron microscope (SEM) for various conditions. It was found that particle velocity was the most influential factor followed by impact angle, particle size, and concentration by analyzing the Taguchi technique. It was also found that at 60° Impact angle, slurry erosion was at the highest, followed by 90° and 30°. The erosion mechanism for the low impact angle was found to be microcutting and plowing, and for the high impact angle, it was carbide fracture. The effect of particle impact velocity, particle impact angle, mean particle size, and concentration was found about 48, 33, 18, and 1%, respectively. The results concluded that to optimize the erosion wear in high chrome cast iron low particle velocity, small particle size, and low impact angle to be recommended.
