Raw materials for pulping in Ghana is difficult to come by. Most of these materials are imported and need hard currency for their importation. Waste materials such as waste papers has been identified as a substitute for these imported material for the pulping industry. However, the supply of waste paper as raw material for pulping purposes in Ghana is extremely difficult because of the scatered nature of these waste materials. In addition to this, a large volume of waste paper is burnt annually which could be utilised for repulping by deinking process. The paper discusses the importance of recycling waste materials for the pulping industry in the country. The paper also considered the the amount of waste paper available in the country for the recycling process.
