Studies on Chemical Constituents in Cell Cultures of Saussurea involucrata

OBJECTIVE To study the chemical constituents of the cell cultures of Saussurea involucrata Kar.et Kir..METHODS The constituents of EtOH extraction from the cell cultures of Saussurea involucrata Kar.et Kir.were isolated and purified by repeated column chromatography.These compounds were identified by their physical and spectral data.RESULTS Five compounds were isolated and identified as βsitosterol(1),daucosterol(2),octameric 3-hydroxybutanoic acid(3),succimic acid(4),syringin(5).CONCLUSION All of the compounds were isolated from this plant's cell cultures for the first time.
