Dieless Drawing — A Forming Process Allowing Flexible Shape Generation

The wire drawing process is the most popular process for wire shaping. The products have unique diameter over the length and mostly circular cross-section. The dieless-drawing process opens the possibility of making wires with different diameters over the length. Due to the hot working process, materials with deformability can be formed. An additional advantage is the suitability to form bars and wires with various cross-sections. To study the behaviour of the process a special drawing machine has been designed and set to work. The influence of the process parameters was examined by parameter variations. On-line data acquisition and an automatic diameter measuring facility were used to collect data for a complete view on each experiment.
