Abstract Treatment of the diols (I) and (III) with "triphenylphosphonium anhydride", generated in situ from triphenylphosphine oxide and trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride, results in ring closure to yield 1,2‐diphenyloxirane (II) and tetrahydrofuran (IV) respectively.
