Objective To explore the relation between personality, psychological factors and functional dyspepsia and its subgroups. Method Personality and psychological status of 118 functional dyspepsia patients and 30 healthy volunteers served as controls were assessed with EPQ and SCL-90 respectively.Results There was difference in EPQ-E and EPQ-N subscale scores between patients with FD,UD,DD, ND and the healthy. The patients with FD got significantly higher scores in 7 factors of SCL-90, as somatization, obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity,depression, anxiety, hostility and the other than the healthy. The patients with UD.DD and ND got significantly higher scores in different factors of SCL-90.Conclusion FD patients had the personality tendency of introversion and nervoticism. The personality may be associated with present of FD. There were varied problems of mental health in FD patiens. Psychological factors and somatic syndromes effect each other.
