The clinical effectiveness of lingual fixed retainer in orthodontic

Objective Compared with the vacuum-formed retainer, to explore the effect of lingual fixed retainer after a year, in order to provide theoretical basis for clinical application. Methods Review of65 patients with fixed orthodontic treatment, male 31 cases, female 34 cases, age 19.1±4.6 years, of which 33 patients received mandibular multiplicand stainless wire retainer,32 cases,using vacuumformed retainer.The models of 65 patients with fixed orthodontic after treatment and one year later were all measured, the items mainly include mandibular inter canine width, width between molar,dental arch length and Little irregularity index.All statistical analysis was performed using Spss 17.0software package and Wilcoxon test. Results After one year, 33 patients wearing orthodontic lingual retainer had good effect,as well as, the effect is better than vacuum-formed group,but no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion Orthodontic lingual retainer can effectively prevent mandibular teeth to return to the previous position, the clinical orthodontist should select appropriate retainer according to the specific characteristic of patients.
