摘要
Increasing evidence highlights the importance of studying kidney aging. The global population is aging. It is estimated that by 2060 the number of Americans 65 years and older will double; similarly, 28% of Europeans will be over 65 years of age. The risk, incidence, and prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are strongly associated with advancing age. Human kidneys aged 70–75 years have 48% fewer intact nephrons compared with young kidneys, an estimated annual loss of 6000–6500 nephrons after age 30.
