Improvement for synthesis of 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone

The 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone was synthesized with 2-imidazolidone and dimethyl carbonate as the raw materials in the ionic liquid catalytic system.The intermediate2-imidazolidone was synthesized with ethylenediamine and bis(triehloromethyl) carbonate with phase transfer catalyst in toluene.The results show that the best conditions for the synthesis of 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone are as follows: DMF as the solvent and n(2-imidazolidone) ∶ n(DMC) = 1∶ 2.25,the reaction time is 5 h under 90~95 ℃.Total yield of the reaction is 78%.The process is of moderate conditions and is friendly to the environment.The structure of the products were confirmed by IR and1HNMR.
