Nitrous oxide-based versus nitrous oxide-free general anaesthesia and accidental awareness during general anaesthesia in surgical patients

This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows:

To assess the effect of general anaesthesia including nitrous oxide on the risk of unintentional intraoperative explicit awareness in patients aged five years and over. Secondary objectives are to assess the effect of general anaesthesia including nitrous oxide on the risk of wakefulness without recall during anaesthesia and on the results of depth of anaesthesia brain monitoring during surgery.
