The deep hole drilling such as BTA(Boring and Trepanning Association)drilling and gundrilling is capable of machining a hole with a large length to diameter ratio in a single pass. The main feature of the deep hole drilling is the stabilization of the cutting force, which provides the self-guidance of the drill head. Also the cutting tool edges are unsymmetrically located on the drill head. This results in a need for the prediction of hole geometry and other dynamic stability of the deep hole drilling guidance. In this study, the effects of BTA deep hole drilling conditions on hole profile in deep hole machined work piece are analyzed by domain analysis methodology. The mechanism and the cause of multi lobe shaped hole profile are also discussed. We investigated the relation between the profile of deep hole drilled work piece and the cutting speed, the feed rate, the chip flow the tool wear and etc., These and the cause of tool wear are studied in the case of SUS 316 stainless steel.
