Questions Concerning the Design of Paper Pulp for Repairing Art on Paper

Three methods for repairing damaged art on paper are described, and questions concerning the design of paper pulp to be used for repairing art works are advanced. The most important criteria for designing paper pulp are dimensional stability consistent with strength; color stability; neutral pH; the potentiality for adding coloring agents not easily faded by light; a means of incorporating materials to vary opacity; and that small quantities of paper pulp be made readily accessible.
