The effects of water temperature on embryonic development of Spinibarbus caldwelli were studied and postembryonic development was observed. The results showed that:as water temperature increase from 22℃ to 32℃,the embryonic development rate increased linearly and the embryonic development period decreased rapidly from 70.33 h to 35.83 h.There was a significant square curve correlation between hatching rate and water temperature. The suitable and optimum water temperature range was estimated from this relationship to be 24.3℃ to 29.0℃ and 25.6℃ to 27.8℃ based on a hatching rate up to 70% and 80%,respectively.The highest hatching rate would be obtained at 26.7℃.While water temperature varied from 24.2℃ to 33.0℃,the larvae reached the mixed feeding stage at 5th day after hatching(DAH),developed into post-larva stage at 8th DAH and into juvenile stage at 21st DAH,From hatching to the 28th DAH,the larva grew linearly and the daily increment of total length was 0.6 mm.
