Penetration of Doxycycline into the Aqueous Humor from Blood

25 human subjects of both sexes undergoing operations for senile cataract were selected for the present study. Doxycycline was administered orally at various intervals to assess its penetration in the aqueous humor through systemic absorption from blood. It was concluded that at the usually recommended dose schedule, doxycycline may serve as a general prophylactic, but not as one which offers a blanket cover against all the pathogenic micro-organisms.
