Solar-driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells can be used to directly convert solar energy into renewable and storable chemical energy in the form of H2 from the water splitting reaction. BiVO4 is one of the most promising photoanode candidates for use in PEC water splitting under visible light with a narrow band gap and favourable band positions which are conducive for the process for water splitting. However, the practical potential is still far reaching from its full potential due to poor charge separation and slow water oxidation kinetics. Thus, this research aimed to develop a highly efficient BiVO4-based heterojunction structures for application in PEC water oxidation.
