Natural clinoptilolite were regulated by different cations at different ion concentrations.Relationship between zeta potential of regulated zeolite and its ability for removing phosphate was investigated. And SEM-EDS,XRD,specific surface area and pore analysis and other means were used to characterize the structure. The zeta potentials of zeolites regulated by 5g/L AlCl3,4g/L LaCl3,and 1g/L AlCl3 with 3g/L LaCl3 were-33.33,-20.69 and-30.96mV respectively,compared-37.80mV of natural zeolite, and their phosphate removal rates increased from 7.26% to 12.55%,92.81%,55.56% respectively. The ability of zeolite for removing phosphate was found to be positive correlation with zeta potential increase. It could be inferred that AlCl3 and LaCl3 regulations transferred positive charges onto surface of zeolite which increased the zeta potentials of zeolite, therefore enhancing the abilities of zeolite for removing phosphate.Regulated zeolite of LaCl3 formed a lot of coral shaped surface structure,at the same time appeared more micro hole and specific surface area and pore size distribution also changed greatly.
