The Therapies of Intertrochanteric Fractures of the Femur in the Elderly and Analysis of Therapeutic Effects

Objective:To analyse the curative effects of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur in the elderly using different methods.Methods:There were seventy-eight cases of intertrochanteric fractures.Ten cases were treated with conservative therapy.Sixty-eight cases were operated,fifty-six of them performed with DHS(Dynamic Hip Screw),ten cases with three dynamic hollow screws and two cases with extra-infixation.Results:The patients were followed up for 7～42 months,with an average of 18 months.There were not any infection and nonunion cases.Coxa vara was found in 3 cases.Screw perforated the femoral head in 2 cases of the DHS internal fixation.The excellent and good rate of hip joint function was 92.2%.Conclusion:Operation is the first selection for treating intertrochanteric fractures of the femur in the elderly and the DHS is an ideal internal fixation method.
