Viability parameters for activated sludge

Correlation between dehydrogenase activity, oxygen uptake, viable cell counts and volatile suspended solids in activated sludge has been examined with reference to their applicability as measures of viability in models of the activated‐sludge process. It was concluded that volatile suspended solids is in general a satisfactory viability parameter.
