Membrane separation technology is widely applied in industries. However, there are still bottlenecks for existing membranes. Recently, two membranes with enormous industrial application potential have been reported in the same issue of Science. The exceptional performances and thoughtful designs open up new avenues to optimize the practical performance of membranes and may accelerate the improvement of membrane separation technology.
