Antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) nanorods were successfully synthesized from SnCl4·5H2O and SbCl3 by hydrothermal method. The resistivity of the nanorods is about 100Ω·cm. The structure and morphology of ATO nanorods were tested by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectrum (EDS). As a result, the ratio of the length to the diameter (L/D) of ATO nanorods increases upon lasting the reaction time, while the reaction time has a slight influence on the diameter of the nanorods. High concentration of SnCl4 results in an increase of the diameter and the length of the products, while it has a slight influence on the L/D. The formation mechanism of ATO nanorods and effect of reaction conditions on L/D were simply discussed.
