Optimum conditions have been found for the determination ofnanomolar and sub-nanomolar concentrations of 9-nitroanthracene in drinking and river water using differential pulse voltammetry at hanging mercury drop electrodeafter preliminary separation and preconcentration using liquid-liquid extraction with hexane. Linear calibration curves were obtained for liquid-liquid extraction in the concentration range 1 × 10 - 6 -1 × 10 - 1 0 mol L - 1 .
