Objective: To primarily study the effect of nanometre CeO2 to the mechanical properties of SY-1 silicone elastomer. Methods: Add nanometer CeO2 into SY-1 silicone elastomer with 0.00, 0.50, 1.00, 1.50, 2.00 and 2.50 wt% additions of nanometer CeO2, then the mechanical properties of SY-1 silicone elastomer including the tensile strength (MPa), the elongation at break (%), the tear strength (kN/m), permanent deformation rate(3 minutes)and the Shore-A hardness were tested separately. Results: When the ratio of nanometer CeO2 to the base of SY-1 silicone elastomer was 1.50%, the general mechanical properties of SY-1 silicone elastomer was the best: the Shore-A hardness was 29±2.60(U) ,the elongation at break (%) was 590±6.08 (%), the tear strength (kN/m) was 22.4±0.53 (kN/m), the permanent deformation rate(3 minutes)was 3.4±0.20 (%) and the tensile strength(MPa) was 5±0.36(MPa). Conclusion: The mechanical properties of SY-1 silicone elastomer was the best with the ratio of 1.50% of nanometer CeO2 added to the base of SY-1 silicone elastomer.
