The heat decomposition stability of PETG resins with different CHDM contents was studied in nitrogen and air respectively. The results showed that PETG resins exhibited a heat weight-loss process in nitrogen, which might correspond to the thermal degradation and heat decomposition of PETG chains. The heat decomposition behavior of PETG in air was quite different from that in nitrogen, which exhibited twothermo weight-loss processes in air. The first heat decomposition process was produced by the thermal degradation and heat decomposition of polymer chains as that in nitrogen. And the second heat decomposition process was mainly caused by the heat oxidative decomposition of the products formed during the first heat decomposition process. The first decomposition process in nitrogen and in air could be taken as the characterizations of the heat decomposition and heat oxidative decomposition stabilities of PETG, respectively.
