Experimental and theoretical studies that have been carried out to predict the fire resistance of rectangular hollow steel columns filled with fibre-reinforced concrete are presented in this paper.A numerical model to calculate the temperatures, deformations, and the fire resistance of loaded, rectangular, hollow steel columns filled with steel-fibre-reinforced concrete is described.Predictions from the numerical model are compared with experimental data.The results indicate that the model is capable of predicting the fire resistance of square hollow steel columns filled with fibre-reinforced concrete with an accuracy that is adequate for practical purposes.The model can be used to evaluate the fire resistance of rectangular steel columns filled with steel-fibre-reinforced concrete for any value of the significant parameters, such as load, column section dimensions, column length, concrete strength, and aggregate type in concrete, without the necessity of testing.
