Methods: Through talking with 107 children and their parents, we investigated psychological condition of the children and their parents before operation and the route of premedication which they preferred. Results: Most of the parents showed anxiety and fear before operation. Different kinds of operation made different psychological condition. Parents whose children receive major operation and orthopaedic surgery showed more anxiety than those whose children receive minor operation. The younger the child was, the more nervous the parents were. The investigation about the route of premedication showed that oral administration was the best. Conclusion: Operation and injection will result in anxiety and fear in children and their parents. Therefore, it is most effective to overcome fear by choosing the premedication through oral administration.
