Cellular Automaton Modeling and Its Applications in Computer Simulation of Microstructures

Cellular Automata are idealizations of complex systems. They are especially advantageous for modeling complex dynamic problems such as the evolution of microstructures in materials, and are very easy to implement in computer simulation. fundamental ideas, classification and characteristics of cellular automata have been introduced in the present paper. Applications of cellular automaton modeling to studies of solidification, recrystallization, precipitation and phase decomposition have been reviewed.
