The paper concerned that the extensive use of artificial antibiotics was leading to a remarkable increase in antibiotic resistance among pathogens. Thus, the identification of novel innate antimicrobial agents as natural alternatives for antibiotics was considerable interest. Antimicrobial peptides (AMP) and cytokines were such agents that were of interest as potential novel pharmaceutical agents. This paper studied on expression and antimicrobial activity of recombinant antimicrobial peptides and recombinant chicken cytokines were reviewed. Both recombinant proteins are promising targets for use as alternatives to the antibiotics which are currently widely used.
