In this paper, we introduce the newest member of the AIM Cryocooler family: the SL450. It is a derivative based on the SL400. AIM implemented various improvements to significantly increase the cooling capacity. Key improvements include increased compressor motor efficiency, an optimized ½” regenerator, improved heat dissipation on expander warm end cover and a new high power electronics. Together, these improvements result in significantly better efficiency, combined with increased maximum input power level. The maximum cooler DC input power is increased from 110WDC to 150WDC. The dimensions of the mechanical cooler are unchanged, including compatibility with the ½” industry standard dewar bore, allowing usage of the SL450 as a more powerful alternative to the SL400 cooler, which is chosen in many demanding applications today. The new cooler thus allows very low detector temperatures (<25K), fast CD or high cooling capacity (close to 6W@80K, 23C). MTTF is also enhanced due to lower outgassing materials and improved thermal behavior at high loads. The new DCE150 cooler electronics is also available with an advanced algorithm for digital ROICs.
