The adsorption characteristics and mechanism of the bifunctional grafted cross-linked chitosan for Cu 2+, Ni 2+ and Co 2+ were studied in this paper. The results showed that the adsorption ability of the compound for Cu 2+, Ni 2+ and Co 2+ were 2.40mmol/g, 1.60mmol/g and 3.10mmol/g, respectively. The difference of adsorption ability for 3 metal ions could be related to the difference in configuration of metal ions and in coordination of complex compound. In the mixed solution of the 3 different ions, the adsorption ability of all ions was compatible with a single ion. The compound has good adsorption selectivity property for Co 2+. The adsorption ability of the granular resins after regenerated 3 times was nearly the same as before.
