Transurethral Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate for the Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Objective To evaluate the effects of transurethral holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) Methods 50 cases of BPH were treated by HOLEP The International prostate symptom score ( IPSS ), quality of life (QOL) and maximum flow rate (MFR) of the patient were compared before and after operation Results On the 3rd month after operation,Predominant curative effects were gained by the IPSS decreased from (22 80±1 20 to 5 60±0 60), QOL decreased from (4 80±0 72) to (1 50±0 09) and MFR increased from( 6 10±0 91 ) ml/s to (17 30±1 83)ml/s Conclusions Transurethral holmiun laser enucleation of the prostate has the advantages of minimal injury , fast postoperative recovery and short hospitalization, which has been proved in good perspective of the clinical practice
